Brand-new Interview & Some ‘Spooks’ related Scans |
TV Choice Magazine added a new interview with Sophia Myles in which she talks about her character Beth Bailey on ‘Spooks‘ as well as her Hollywood experience and her year off! I can’t even begin to list all the interesting bits as it’s all very interesting – and needless to say it’s fabulous to read a Sophia interview about 2 years after she promoted ‘Mister Foe‘ in the US.
• Interview Extra: Sophia Myles
On the day I heard about it [Spooks], a really spooky thing happened. I went to the theatre to see a friend of mine in a play at the Royal Court in London. In the play was Rupert Penry-Jones, and then in the bar afterwards, I met Keeley Hawes and Hermione Norris. Then I’m in the cab on the way back and I get an email saying, ‘Would you be interested in Spooks?’ and I thought, ‘I don’t have a choice.’
I added some scans from TV Magazines by Lorna and some additional scans thanks to the generosity of Ali from Richard Armitage Net. Even if there’s no Sophia it’s still nice to see her new project featured on the cover of TV Magazines. Also messageboard member Felicia typed up those articles with Sophia-relevant bits. Thank you everybody so much!
• Agents of Change, from TV Times, September 18
• Agents of Change, from Total TV Guide, September 18-24
Beth’s based on a real woman, who I’ve met. When she [the real person] was 18 – and studying English at Edinburgh University – she was head-hunted by MI6. She was picked to undergo their fast-track selection process. It’s about two blocks of six months.
She meets Lucas and they end up helping each other solve this problem. Beth reconnects with Harry, who she met years ago, at MI5 HQ and asks him for a job. Lucas is suspicious of Beth because she’s from the private sector. She also tries to take the mickey out of Lucas and he doesn’t like that!
I sat down to watch a few [Spooks episodes] and I was absolutely terrified. I can never watch them late at night. They stress me out too much. I go to bed with heart palpitations!
Be sure to read the articles to find out more as well as what drew her to the project even if she hadn’t watched it before. If you want to remain spoiler-free however, I suggest you postpone looking at the scans and articles until you’ve seen episode 1.

Carey Mulligan @ Never Let Me Go New York Premiere |
Carey attended New York Premiere of “Never Let Me Go”. She looked extremely stunning in her beautifl dress and cool make-up.
BellaSugar.com.au wrote about her:
God I love Carey Mulligan. Unlike lots of other Hot Young Things, she’s never afraid to mix things up. She’s also s-to-the-savvy when it comes to beauty, too. Check out her latest look. That eye. Sure it’s smoky. Sure it’s a classic. But it sure did a good job of distracting you from the fact that she’s growing out her hair didn’t it? See. Savvy. She uses the power of makeup for good, not evil. I’ve been there myself. The horrible growing-out stage of a crop, but she’s handling it well, the little minx. At a NYC screening of her new movie Never Let Me Go, she showed off her longer tousled style and stylin’ smoky eye. Normally I’m not always a fan of the heavy eye look, but when teamed with a wash of pink on the cheeks and a little rose gloss, I think it looks rather pretty. You too? Got any good tips for the in-between styles stage?
- [x022] Appearances in 2010 – September 14th: “Never Let Me Go” New York Premiere
Also here is a film review from LA Times:
Going defiantly against the grain of a hyperbolic movie culture, “Never Let Me Go” is passionate about deliberation and restraint. Starring Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield and Keira Knightley, the A Team of young British acting talent, this is a moving and provocative film that initially unsettles, then disturbs and finally haunts you well into the night.
Based on the celebrated novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, “Never Let Me Go” is suffused with the kind of longing for what cannot be that is implicit in its title. It deals on one level with a love that yearns against profound odds to speak its name, but in a deeper sense it offers provoking thoughts about what it means to be human, to have a life at all, and the kinds of unforgivable things that are done to preserve that at all costs.
If this sounds mysterious, it is meant to, for if “Never Let Me Go” is to be most effective, the heart of its story has to reveal itself as gradually and unhurriedly as possible. The film, to be frank, isn’t as patient as the book and, understandably worried about the attention span of movie audiences, offers more hints along the way than the novel did, but it still takes its time to divulge what it’s about.
