It was recently announced that Naomie Harris will play Elizabeth Lavenza in Nick Dear’s new ‘Frankenstein’ play. For the production, which will be at the Olivier Theatre, Naomie will reunite with her ‘Small Island’ co-star Benedict Cumberbatch. Cumberbatch and actor Jonny Lee Miller will share the lead role of Victor Frankenstein.

The play will run from February to April 2010 and you can already get your tickets at the National Theatre website.

Carey Mulligan is looking lovely on the cover of Elle UK’s January 2011 issue, on newsstands Thursday (December 9).

Here’s what the 25-year-old Never Let Me Go actress had to share:

On feeling sexy: “‘I’ve never felt like a sexy person… I’ve always felt like a sensible person. I’ve always felt absurd wearing anything revealing.”

On being encouraged to have Botox: “So I can’t move my face? Isn’t that the antithesis of what I’m trying to do as an actress? Only in LA would someone try and give you Botox when you’re 25 years old.”

On body image: “I’m not trying to sell myself as a visual. I’m selling my willingness to play a part really well. If your body doesn’t look normal, how can you convey normal people, how can you be relatable?”

On ex Shia LaBeouf: “I always wanted to work with him, above and beyond anything else, because I thought he was so amazing in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints.”

Andrea Riseborough has around 30 beautiful dresses to play with for our shoot, but she looks uncomfortable. “I don’t like getting dressed up,” she says. “It’s hard because as a woman, as an actor, the whole world wants you to enjoy dressing up. That’s my life every day. If I look at clothes, I get excited about them as tools.”

After leaving Rada in 2005, Riseborough was snapped up by Peter Hall to play Isabella and Julie in a double bill of Measure For Measure and Miss Julie. In 2008, she gave a memorable performance as a young Margaret Thatcher in The Long Walk To Finchley, and next year she’ll appear as Rose in Brighton Rock.

Next up is Wallis Simpson in WE, directed by Madonna. What was it like to be directed by a pop idol? “Of course I knew who Madonna was,” she says, “but when I met her I was just having a cup of tea with someone because I wanted to see how interested we both were. She’s a total geek about it, just like me. We bonded over geekiness.”

At the shoot, she is reading F Scott Fitzgerald’s Flappers And Philosophers. Does she have any appetite for pop culture? “Sometimes, but it’s like McDonald’s – it makes you feel worse afterwards.” So what is the diet of the serious actor? “Five books a week.” It sounds heavy, but it seems to be working.
