As said in the last update, Adam was honored at the 2011 Los Angeles Equality Awards this weekend and was presented with the “Equality Idol Award” for being an exemplary role model for LGBT youth. Below is his acceptance speech as well as images from the event.
“Over the past couple of years since American Idol I’ve recognized my responsibility as a gay man in the public eye. And that’s something that I’m really thankful for. As a teenager growing up when I was struggling with my own identity, I didn’t have anybody. I didn’t have anybody to really look up to…and to recognize the opportunity to be somebody that was comfortable being ‘a fuckin weird fag,’ hello, and I own that phrase. I am. I’m weird, I love it! I was that theater kid in high school that like playing dress up…and to have someone be like that in the public eye and to be proud of who they are, I realized that this was my chance to do that for other people. “
