“A real genius” – Johnny Depp eulogizes Michael Jackson |
Johnny Depp’s appearance at the London premiere of Public Enemies (June 29th) was the first opportunity reporters had to ask for his reaction to Michael Jackson’s untimely death. “Well, obviously hearing about the sad passing of Michael Jackson, for anyone – for all of us – it’s very, very tragic,” Johnny said. “Some children lost a father; some parents lost a child; some brothers and sisters lost a sibling; so that’s obviously very sad. I had great respect for what he’s done, his work over the years,” Johnny added. “He’s a real genius.”
And what about the rumors that Johnny Depp may play Michael Jackson in a future motion picture? False rumors! “As far as playing him in a movie, it’s such an obtuse rumor that I never had the pleasure of cultivating,” Johnny replied. “That’s not my idea, anyway.”
The Telegraph brought up the old false claim that Johnny’s performance as Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was based on Michael Jackson – a rumor that Johnny debunked repeatedly in interviews at the time of the film’s release in 2005, and publicly refuted again on Monday. “He was not the inspiration for Willy Wonka,” Johnny said. “I wish I could say that I was inspired by him for the role.” However, there is no connection between Johnny’s portrayal of Roald Dahl’s candymaker and the King of Pop.

Johnny Depp arrives at the premiere of Public Enemies in LA! |
Johnny Depp wore a blue shirt to match his signature blue sunglasses as he arrived on a very sunny red carpet outside Mann’s Village Theater in Los Angeles for the studio premiere of Michael Mann’s gangster epic Public Enemies, in which JD plays another JD: John Dillinger. Johnny was also wearing a well-tailored 3-piece pinstripe suit.

First look: What a weird ‘Wonderland’ Burton’s made |
Those who have grown curiouser and curiouser about what the offbeat reinventor of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory might conjure up in his version of Alice in Wonderland can feast their eyes on this array of concept art and publicity images, due to hang in movie theaters this week to promote the March 5, 2010, release.
“It has been Burton-ized” is how producer Richard Zanuck describes the director’s vision of the Lewis Carroll classic. Many elements are familiar, from the enigmatic Caterpillar (Alan Rickman) to the fierce Jabberwock (Christopher Lee). But none has been presented in this sort of visually surreal fashion.
“We finished shooting in December after only 40 days,” Zanuck says. Now the live action is being merged with CG animation and motion-capture creatures, and then transferred into 3-D.
Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn’t remember.
Among those who welcome her back is the Mad Hatter, a part tailor-made for Johnny Depp as he collaborates with Burton for the seventh time. “This character is off his rocker,” Zanuck says.

Grey’s: Denny Duquette will be back for at least 5 episodes! |
It looks like the handsome actor who plays the late Denny Duquette, Jr., could be sticking around for the foreseeable future – and may well turn out to be the “surprising” love interest for Izzie that Shonda Rhimes promised in the offseason.
How long will Denny haunt Izzie and where the heck is this even going?
As for the first part, Michael Ausiello of EW says Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be in at least five episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. Whether that’s five from the start of his recent stint or five more as of now is unclear – but he’s not going anywhere.
As far as where the story is headed, the most logical theory is that Shonda Rhimes is indeed giving Izzie a brain tumor, as was rumored months ago, and which would or could grant Katherine Heigl’s (never publicly stated) wish to make movies full time.
But who says this story has to be logical, right? As Grey’s Anatomy writer Stacy McKee opined on the show’s writers blog after “These Ties That Bind”:
“Maybe this is one connection that gets to defy all… common sense. Maybe it just gets to be. Even if it does seem too good to be true.”

Kevin McKidd is joining Grey’s Anatomy as series regular! |
The same door that kicked Brook Smith out of the TV Show in the last days, was opened for Kevin McKidd this week.
The Scottish actor, who plays Dr. Owen Hunt, is thrilled to be added to the regular cast after his starring role on NBC’s sci-fi series Journeyman was cut short after 13 episodes.
“It’s a great show, and I’m lucky to be on it,” said McKidd, 38, about Grey’s Anatomy.
