Alice Cooper Talks “Talking Dead” & His Favorite “TWD” Character
Source: Cherokee Tribune
MARIETTA — Rock legend Alice Cooper, whose original band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, is bringing his world tour, “The No More Mr. Nice Guy” show, to the Cobb Energy Centre at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Tickets start at $37.
In a telephone interview this week from Canada, Cooper talked about the show, his Christianity, the secret to surviving decades as a rock star, how golf helped him overcome an alcohol addiction, and a favorite television series filmed here in metro Atlanta, AMC’s “The Walking Dead.”
MDJ: Was that really you calling up “The Talking Dead” show the other day?
Cooper: I watched the show, and they kind of asked me to call. I’m a big fan of the show anyways. They should do the same thing with “Dexter,” where at the end of the show people can call in and ask questions, because it’s like a soap opera. You kind of get involved in the characters more than the zombies.
MDJ: Who’s your favorite character?
Cooper: I like what’s his name? Daryl. The guy that was in “The Boondock Saints.” He’s great because he’s sort of like a guy that would be the real guy. All he knows is being a redneck, and all he really knows is that these are bad things, kill them.

“TWD” Star Norman Reedus Talks Daryl Dixon’s Appeal
Source: MTV News
Maybe it’s the crossbow. Maybe it’s his prickly disposition towards his fellow survivors, an armor he casts aside when lost little children are dropped into the mix. Or maybe it’s just the simple fact that Norman Reedus is a bit of a badass. Whatever the reason (let’s face it, it’s the crossbow), there’s no question that Daryl Dixon is the coolest character on “The Walking Dead.” In fact, he’s one of the coolest characters on television, evidenced by his #13 position on MTV News’ Top 50 TV Characters of 2011 list.
It’s a well-earned victory for the zombie-killing hillbilly: In one and a half seasons, we’ve seen Daryl bash zombie brains with rocks, slash open throats with double axes, and even hallucinate a conversation with his brother while killing even more zombies. Between all that, Daryl has spent much of the current second season searching tirelessly for the missing Sophia — a search that ended tragically during the midseason finale. Whether Sophia’s death will push Daryl back to being the antisocial bully of yesterday or galvanize him even further as a protector of this group of survivors remains to be seen, but we can tell you this much: No matter where Daryl goes next, we’ll be along for the ride.
Reedus swung by MTV News headquarters to talk about the awesomeness that is Daryl Dixon, touching upon the character’s damaged past, his coolest kills and his future with the series.
MTV News: Fans have been hugely supportive of Daryl Dixon. Even ["Walking Dead" creator] Robert Kirkman has admitted that Daryl is a favorite of his. It just seems to be the general consensus that people love this character. What has the fan reaction been like in your experience?
Norman Reedus: Actually, walking across the street [in Times Square] just now, a cop grabbed me by the arm and said, “I love your character on ‘The Walking Dead!’ ” I get it a lot, actually. I [even] have my own Daryl Dixon “Hello Kitty” iPhone case. It’s been really good, you know? The fans really like Daryl, and I’m really appreciative.
MTV: What is it about Daryl Dixon that’s just so f—ing cool?
Reedus: Well, it’s hard not to look cool while holding a crossbow, first off. But he’s interesting in that he has a different sort of struggle than anyone else. He’s trying to just get along with people for the first time, I think. That one moment where Carol reaches down to kiss him on the forehead and he [recoils], he thinks he’s about to get hit. There’s this damaged thing about him that’s really interesting. And when you have a backdrop like “The Walking Dead,” it’s even more powerful. But you have Rick and Shane fighting for what’s the best thing in this group, and Daryl is just sort of trying to find his footing. He’s not used to people telling him he’s worth a damn. So once people start telling him that, his first reaction is fight or flight. He’s such an interesting person. You could have that personality type in a Wall Street movie and he’d still be interesting.

Daemon’s TV Exclusive Interview with Norman Reedus
Source: Daemon’s TV
It must be quite a interesting experience to be Norman Reedus these days.
Not only is he in The Walking Dead one of the most critically acclaimed shows of the year but he gets to play one of the most beloved character on the show. Why you ask? My fellow writer The TV Czar said it best in 5 Must See TV Stars:
He has managed to transform this racist hillybilly character into someone loved and rooted for by the audience. Also, he seems to be one of the few characters on the show that is capable of common sense thinking when faced with a zombie apocalypse. He should get at least a Golden Globe nomination for that alone.
To top it all off, Norman doesn’t just rest on his laurels as he uses his profile to help out very deserving causes through his web site and with his photography that you can buy on Charity Buzz (all proceeds go to charity).
Daemon’s TV was lucky enough to catch Norman during this interesting time and ask him a few burning questions about the last TWD episode, what we should expect when the show comes back next year and what show he would love to guest star on. Check out what he had to say below and don’t forget to watch the new episodes of The Walking Dead which return next year Sunday Feb 12 at 9/8c.
Congratulations on a great second season of ‘The Walking Dead’ so far.
Norman Reedus: Yeah, thanks. I think after episode 8 it gets even better, to be honest.
Sophia walking out of the barn in the last episode, that was a shocker. Did you know about that all along?
Norman Reedus: We didn’t know that was going to happen. We kind of had an idea, but they give us our scripts just before we shoot. So, we didn’t really know for sure, but we had a good idea that it was going to happen.
You had a suspicion that she was nearby?
Norman Reedus: Yeah, and there was also talk that maybe Merle had her. There was talk that maybe she joined in with another group. There’s always talk about what’s going to happen on our set, but I think we kind of knew that was going to happen.

Norman Reedus’ One of Daemon’s TV 5 Must See TV Stars
Source: Daemon’s TV
A great TV actor can make an entire series. They can overcome shaky writing, poor supporting characters, and even lackluster directing. Throughout TV history, there are countless cases of TV actors carrying mediocre shows and making them good, or taking a good show and making it transcendent. While the 2011 TV season has its fair share of duds (I’m most definitely looking at you, Eddie Cibrian), there are plenty of actors who are absolutely crushing it this year. Given the state of TV these days, the work of these fine actors is to be celebrated. Here are five actors that you should be watching:
Norman Reedus
I have taken my fair share of shots at THE WALKING DEAD recently, but one thing I cannot disparage is the performance of Norman Reedus as Daryl. Granted, some of his appeal may come from the fact that the other actors aren’t exactly putting on acting clinics, but Reedus’s work still needs to be recognized. He has managed to transform this racist hillybilly character into someone loved and rooted for by the audience. Also, he seems to be one of the few characters on the show that is capable of common sense thinking when faced with a zombie apocalypse. He should get at least a Golden Globe nomination for that alone.
Kat Graham & her “Vampire Diaries” co-star Ian Somerhalder will be hosting “The Ripple Effect”, which will benefit The Water Project charity in association with ISF (Ian Somerhalder Foundation), on December 10th.

The Ripple Effect
We would love for you to join us on December 10th and attend “The Ripple Effect” hosted by The Vampire Diaries star Kat Graham and chaired by her co-star Ian Somerhalder.

It is a black-tie affair with a multi-course dinner followed by a silent and live auction. Seats are limited and expected to sell out quickly.

Norman Reedus Goes Deep as Daryl Dixon in “TWD”
Source: Chicago Tribune
By Curt Wagner RedEye
1:27 a.m. CST, November 14, 2011
Norman Reedus never wanted Daryl Dixon, the redneck he plays in AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” to be a younger version of Daryl’s racist brother, Merle.
He’s definitely showing more sides of Daryl in Season 2 of the hit series, making the fan favorite both tender and tough. He’s still a loner, but he’s slowly opening up to individuals in the group.
He’s also become a real hero in the face of the zombie apocalypse. While other members of his group are ready to hang up the search for young Sophia, Daryl remains committed to finding Carol’s daughter—most likely because he feels a kinship as the survivor of abuse himself.
“You feel for Daryl,” Reedus told me at the beginning of the season. “He’s just as ferocious as ever, but you understand why he’s not just a nut, he’s not just Merle again.
“He’s a guy that’s just incredibly emotionally and spiritually damaged.”
It’s a standout portrayal by Reedus, one that Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes, called “phenomenal.”
“What he’s done with this role is beautiful and bewitching, and really intelligent as well,” Lincoln said in a separate interview. “Norman’s a great, great actor.”
In the two most recent episodes (spoilers if you haven’t seen them), Reedus showed the depth he’s found in Daryl, who last week told Carol a lovely story about the Cherokee Rose and, in Sunday’s “Chupacabra,” went all badass again, pulling an arrow out of his own side to use it to kill a zombie, eating squirrel sushi and making a necklace out of zombie ears.
Oh, and did I mention he had a hallucination in which Merle belittled him and told him that Rick and the group are not his friends? As Reedus said during our conversation, Merle’s influence still runs deep—which explains why, when Carol leaned in to give him a thank-you kiss, he pulled away and tried to refuse her compliments.
“The dogs with the loudest bark are the ones that are most afraid,” Reedus said, explaining his approach to Daryl, about whom we will learn even more devastating backstory. “I’m trying to play [Daryl] sort of like a scared, wet animal in an alley. He’ll lash out at you, but he’d really love it if you took him inside and gave him some milk.”
Here’s more of the conversation Reedus and I had earlier this year. We talked about Daryl, the zombie apocalypse, crossbows, Mothra and “The Boondocks Saints.” But first, he was very happy to hear that he’s made me pass out.
Thanks for doing the interview. First off, I wanted to tell you that you made me pass out in Season 1. When Daryl found his brother’s hand, the look on your face—I just went “plop.”
Oh, right on. [Laughs.] I don’t know, is that good or bad?
Well, it’s good I guess. I mean I wasn’t driving or anything, right?
You weren’t flying a plane. … So like anything dramatic will make you just pass out?
Yeah, it’s usually peoples’ reactions after either stabbings or body parts being chopped off. But it’s never the actual visual of that happening.
Wow. Why is that? That’s awesome. I mean it’s weird, but it’s awesome. Can you watch all of the second season and then call me every time you pass out? Because I bet I make you pass out again. … That’s my goal for the rest of the season. I’m going to make you pass out.

Q&A – Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon)
Source: The Walking Dead blog
Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon on AMC’s The Walking Dead, talks about Daryl’s zombie ear necklace and why it’s impossible to not look cool with a crossbow.
Q: “Chupacabra” is a pretty intense episode.
A: It’s like Deliverance meets Motorhead.
Q: In this episode, Daryl has a necklace of ears. Were you pleased with the necklace?
A: It’s a necklace of ears, man! Cutting off the ears is just Daryl getting angry and doing what he has to do to save himself. I love that he’s still like that.
Q: Last year you told us your challenge was to make a racist likeable. Now your character is a fan favorite. Have you enjoyed the switch?
A: I’ve tried to make him more of a multi-layered character — someone who can tear up and then try to knife you. He’s kind of like this wet little coyote that doesn’t know where he’s at and people are trying to reach over and pet him and he snaps back.
Q: Last year you told us you had never used a crossbow before. You must be pretty comfortable with the thing by now?
A: [Laughs] I’m pretty well-versed in crossbow-ness by now, but I’m still figuring out new ways to use it all the time. These days I can flip it around my back or use it to prop a shotgun up. I’ve gotten good at running and shooting it, too. My latest accomplishment is that I can jump on a horse and hook the reins onto the horn of the saddle and flip it over my back and load and fire it while riding. You can’t not look cool with a crossbow.
Q: The zombie actors must cringe when they have a scene with you.
A: You have to dry fire on set — and it’s with another wimpy crossbow, with the tension let out. If it’s a close range zombie kill, like that episode where I roll over on my back and shoot a zombie who’s on top of me, it’s with that Nerf-like crossbow.
Q: Daryl is a survivalist and outdoors type of guy. Are you like that?
A: [Laughs] I’ve been camping and stuff, but if you left me in the woods I’d probably just curl up and cry until someone found me. I have to say living in Georgia while shooting The Walking Dead — I love the country. I’ve been riding my motorcycle in my time off, not seeing anyone for hours. I love it here.
Q: Have you stumbled upon any hidden secrets in your travels around Georgia?
A: I also have an old truck — a 1979 Ford F150 that has big wheels on it — and what I’ve found out is that if you ride in the country in a truck, the other truck drivers wave to you. I love the politeness down here.
Q: Did you give Laurie Holden a hard time because her character shoots Daryl?
A: Yeah we had a big laugh about that. I was like “Laurie, I can’t believe you did that!” She was like, “I was really sad, I swear!” She’s become a good friend of mine. We’ve all become really tight on the show.
