Ashley Greene, Lauren Conrad, Others Tweet For Haiti Earthquake Relief
In the wake of the destruction left in Haiti after an earthquake registering 7.0 on the Richter scale destroyed much of the area in and around the country’s capital of Port-au-Prince, celebrities ranging from Selena Gomez to Adam Lambert have taken to Twitter to encourage their followers to send aid to the devastated nation.
Since the earthquake on Tuesday, more and more celebrities have been tweeting about the news. “If u have fam/friends n Haiti, I am sending much luv 2 u rite now,” Tyra Banks tweeted. “Phones r down n i know it is beyond hard 2 not reach your loved ones. My thoughts are still with all those suffering in Haiti during this major catastrophe.”
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian expressed her support for the Haitian people, writing, “The people of Haiti need our help! So many ways to donate, so please let’s all help them! I’m heartbroken over Haiti, keep hearing more news, its just getting worse! Everyone needs to help!!!!”
Former “Hills” star Lauren Conrad wrote, “A devastating earthquake hit Haiti & they need help … You can text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to @RedCross relief efforts in Haiti.”
“Twilight Saga” star Ashley Greene asked her followers to help those in Haiti. She tweeted, “Text ‘Haiti’ to 90999 to send $10 to the Red Cross for their relief fund. Please do whatever you can in this time of crisis.”
Fellow “Twilight” star Justin Chon added, “And if you can spare it text “HAITI” to 90999 and a donation of $10 to American Red Cross will automatically be added to your phone bill.”

In the Twilight movies, Ashley Greene plays the saga’s resident good-girl vampire, Alice Cullen—all pixie haircut and motherly touch, not a hint of bloodlust in her earnest high-school demeanor. Greene’s career—and her life—has changed dramatically since she was cast in the blockbuster series. For one thing, teenage girls shake uncontrollably and burst into tears when they see her on the street. For another, it was just a couple of years ago that the 22-year-old Greene was struggling to land guest spots with no dialogue, and almost had to leave Los Angeles and return to her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, where she’d originally planned to study psychology and law. But now, she’s booking movies faster than she can make them—including her first big lead, in the upcoming supernatural thriller, The Apparition. Michael Sheen, Greene’s co-star in Twilight and New Moon, recently caught up with the actress.

“It’s a really hard thing to wrap your head around. I was working at a restaurant, I booked the role in Twilight, put in my two weeks’ notice, got fitted, flew to Portland, filmed, and then it started getting hype.”
MICHAEL SHEEN: Okay. This is my first question. This is the only really serious one, and then the rest are quite funny. The first one is: As an elf, raised by humans, have you found a lot of discrimination against the fairy folk here in Hollywood?
ASHLEY GREENE: Well, I think they’re just jealous that I sparkle and speak elfin and have cute little pointy ears.
SHEEN: It’s true.
GREENE: So, yes, there’s discrimination. But I really don’t care.
SHEEN: You do get described as pixie-like a lot. In my younger days, I used to get described as sort of elf-like. I think it’s probably a lot easier to deal with that if you’re a pretty girl, rather than a sort of average-looking boy.
GREENE: I’m sorry about your adolescence.
SHEEN: Thank you. Well, look, let’s take a second and go back to the beginning, Ashley Greene. You grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. Is that correct?
GREENE: That is correct.
SHEEN: Now tell me about Jacksonville. What’s it like? And could you please sprinkle it with some alligator stories?
GREENE: I’ve only eaten fried alligator tail once.

“The campaign, spearheaded by NYC-based teen retailer Aéropostale, raises awareness about youth homelessness by inspiring teens across the US and Canada to collect gently-used jeans and donate them to homeless youth right in their own communities.
In 2009, Teens For Jeans collected over 200,000 pairs of jeans and this year teens are already gearing up to top that effort. There are drop-offs located at all Aéropostale stores from January 19th through February 14th, 2010.

Stepping out for evening promotional duties, Ashley Greene made an appearance on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” in New York City on Friday (January 8, 2010).

It’s an experience I’ll never forget.”
