Troubled Hollywood starlet Mischa Barton will be the star presenter at the MTV Australia Awards on Saturday.
Barton will arrive in Sydney later this week.
“I am really excited to be coming back to Australia,” Barton said. “I’m looking forward to a great night of live entertainment.”
Barton, who is being paid a lucrative appearance fee by MTV organisers, will present a movie award honouring actor Matt Damon. While Damon will not be at the ceremony, he is expected to make a speech via a live video link.
The event is billed as a huge party for the stars of music, film and sport, but Barton’s partying is likely to be closely monitored by visiting media. Earlier this month the actor was sentenced to three years’ probation after a drink-driving charge in the United States. She pleaded “no contest”, was fined just over $2000 and ordered to attend a three-month alcohol education class. Barton had initially been charged with drug possession as well after her arrest for driving erratically in late December but that charge was dropped as part of a plea deal.
The 22-year-old, who starred in television’s The O.C., has gained notoriety since leaving the show as a troubled Hollywood “It” girl, alongside Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. (WTF!?)
She will be joined at the MTV ceremony by guests including Juliette Lewis, the Veronicas and Melbourne’s notorious teenage party-giver Corey Worthington.
Olympic champion Ian Thorpe will present an award to surfing world champion Mick Fanning and US hip-hop star Wyclef Jean will host the awards, being held at the Australian Technology Park in Redfern.
