First “Frankenstein” Pictures + Reviews@NaomieHarrisFan

As you all know, Naomie Harris is currently starring in “Frankenstein” at the National Theatre with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller. She plays Elizabeth Lavenza, Dr. Frankenstein’s doomed fiancée. I believe she only has a couple of scenes but has gotten some pretty good reviews so far. Since this is her first big play Naomie appreciates this: “I can hide. It’s not the lead. Jonny [Lee Miller] and Benedict [Cumberbatch] are carrying the show”, she said.

For a round-up of all the “Frankenstein” Reviews visit Whatsonstage.Com. To read an interview with Naomie about the play click here.

A couple of pictures from the show have already been added to the gallery at NaomieHarrisFan:

Naomie Harris in “Dark Tower” Trilogy ?

The New York Post is reporting that

“Pirates of the Caribbean” beauty Naomie Harris is being considered for the female lead in the Ron Howard‘s eagerly anticipated “Dark Tower” trilogy.

Based on Stephen King‘s western fantasy series which stretches out over many books, the “Dark Tower” Hollywood project is already being hyped as the next big thing and Page Six reports that “agents are tripping over themselves to land their clients coveted roles in what promises to be a blockbuster film and television franchise.”

Because of the sheer volume of material to work with the story will not only be told in three feature films but the time between the films will be bridged by two television series with the same actors.

Front runner for the male lead seems to be Javier Bardem. To find out more about the “Dark Tower” series please visit Wikipedia.

Some of the world’s biggest names in film and television have taken part yesterday (Saturday 13 November 2010) in the Audi A1 Drive Away – a spectacular journey across London to mark the very first UK miles for this the smallest of all Audi models.

To celebrate the launch of the new city-friendly premium hatchback, actors Dominic Cooper, Gemma Arterton, Naomie Harris, Toby Kebbell, Keeley Hawes, Nat Parker and Colin Salmon were among the stars mingling with more than 450 guests at the event. The guests drove away ‘en masse’ from London’s Battersea Power Station to mark the car’s inaugural appearance on UK roads.

The A1 range is the most efficient in the Audi model portfolio, with such low CO2 emissions that all models from UK launch are exempt from road tax in the first year. The Diesel A1 can deliver top fuel economy of 70.6 miles per gallon.

The star-studded cavalcade got under way at 11.30am (Saturday 13 November), and for the first few miles took in some of the capital’s major landmarks, including the MI6 building, Lambeth Palace, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and Marble Arch.

The list of celebrity drivers also included some of the UK’s top talent from the worlds of music, sport, business and the media, including model David Gandy, The Feeling’s front man Dan Gillespie-Sells, TV presenter and England Rugby star Matt Dawson, internet entrepreneur Tom Hadfield, T4 presenter Rick Edwards and singer Lemar.

The Audi A1 is the new premium three-door hatchback that delivers all the quality, design and engineering synonymous with the prestige German manufacturer in a more compact format. A1 prices start from £13,420 (including the new VAT rate of 20%).

Naomie Harris named Break Out Star at TIFF

Although it was The King’s Speech that took home the People’s Choice Trophy this year, The First Grader was picked as runner up- which certainly isn’t anything to sneeze at!

With the Toronto International Film Festival having come to a close this weekend, the L.A. Times yesterday picked four actors they think are poised for stardom. And Naomie Harris is one of them! Here are a few excerpts from the short article.

It is really interesting because there’s lots of information about all the work that everybody put into the film and also what happened before they started shooting. So you should definitely read the whole thing here.

“I wanted to go back and do something really small, really intimate, where I felt like I could be part of the creative process. And meeting a director like Justin Chadwick, who’s always allowing you to contribute — that’s really liberating.
I wanted my passion to be re-ignited, and that’s definitely what happened on this piece.”

Apparently Naomie actually had to teach first graders in Kenya for two weeks before they started shooting.

“It was terrifying. I had to have the Kenyan accent, I had to come up with lesson plans, I taught them all day, which was incredibly exhausting.”

Naomie Harris @ TIFF

As it turns out Naomie Harris did attend the Toronto International Film Festival after all. She was there to promote ‘The First Grader’, which was screened on three different days.

Besides attending the film’s premiere, Naomie also participated in a Q&A session and did some interviews. Lots of new images- including a new portrait session- have been added to the gallery.

You can also watch quite a lengthy interview here. But unfortunately the sound seems to be very low…

Another Review of Naomie Harris in ‘The First Grader’

Another review of Naomie Harris’ performance in ‘The First Grader’ has come in. So far they have all been incredibly positive! So if you are anywhere near the Toronto area on September 12, 16 or 16, you should definitely try to get some tickets for this film!

This is from Variety:

Despite strong character work in earlier popcorn movies, including “28 Days Later” and the “Pirates of the Caribbean” pics, Harris has never been handed such an opportunity to shine, and she rises to the occasion.

As an assertive woman in a male-dominated culture, Obinchu [Naomie's character] faces an entirely different set of prejudices from Maruge, and Harris, as the film’s radiant heart, uses those challenges to broaden the character beyond the inspirational teacher cliche.

Review of Naomie Harris in “The First Grader”

“The First Grader” recently had its worldpremiere at this year’s Telluride Film Festival. The movie did pretty well with both festival goers and critics.

Naomie also attended the festival in person- but unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any pictures. Here is a review of Naomie’s performance:

It helps that Harris [...] brings so much passion to her performance. She conveys Jane’s utter dedication while always leavening her performance with convincing moments of doubt and vulnerability.

Click here to read the whole review.

The movie will also be shown at the Toronto Film Festival next week and will then move on to the London Film Festival in October (October 13 – 28 2010).

It has been reported that Naomie will attend the festivities in London!

More screen captures have been added to the gallery. This time they are from ‘My Last Five Girlfriends’. The film takes a refreshingly new approach to the whole romantic comedy genre. Naomie played Gemma. You can also watch four clips of her, which have been added to the video archive. It was quite nice to see Naomie venture into a different genre with this. So all of you should definitely take a look:
