Carey Mulligan @ Never Let Me Go New York Premiere

Carey attended New York Premiere of “Never Let Me Go”. She looked extremely stunning in her beautifl dress and cool make-up.

BellaSugar.com.au wrote about her:

God I love Carey Mulligan. Unlike lots of other Hot Young Things, she’s never afraid to mix things up. She’s also s-to-the-savvy when it comes to beauty, too. Check out her latest look. That eye. Sure it’s smoky. Sure it’s a classic. But it sure did a good job of distracting you from the fact that she’s growing out her hair didn’t it? See. Savvy. She uses the power of makeup for good, not evil. I’ve been there myself. The horrible growing-out stage of a crop, but she’s handling it well, the little minx. At a NYC screening of her new movie Never Let Me Go, she showed off her longer tousled style and stylin’ smoky eye. Normally I’m not always a fan of the heavy eye look, but when teamed with a wash of pink on the cheeks and a little rose gloss, I think it looks rather pretty. You too? Got any good tips for the in-between styles stage?

Also here is a film review from LA Times:

Going defiantly against the grain of a hyperbolic movie culture, “Never Let Me Go” is passionate about deliberation and restraint. Starring Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield and Keira Knightley, the A Team of young British acting talent, this is a moving and provocative film that initially unsettles, then disturbs and finally haunts you well into the night.

Based on the celebrated novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, “Never Let Me Go” is suffused with the kind of longing for what cannot be that is implicit in its title. It deals on one level with a love that yearns against profound odds to speak its name, but in a deeper sense it offers provoking thoughts about what it means to be human, to have a life at all, and the kinds of unforgivable things that are done to preserve that at all costs.

If this sounds mysterious, it is meant to, for if “Never Let Me Go” is to be most effective, the heart of its story has to reveal itself as gradually and unhurriedly as possible. The film, to be frank, isn’t as patient as the book and, understandably worried about the attention span of movie audiences, offers more hints along the way than the novel did, but it still takes its time to divulge what it’s about.

Carey Mulligan @ Never Let Me Go Premiere

Carey attended Never Let Me Go premiere at Toronto International Film Festival some hours ago. Here are some photos of her looking stunning in this fantastic dress and an interview about her role in the film:

TORONTO – Carey Mulligan couldn’t stand the thought of another actress playing the lead role in the big-screen adaptation of the beloved book “Never Let Me Go.”

The Oscar-nominated performer says she fell in love with Kazuo Ishiguro’s acclaimed novel, about three friends whose lives are torn apart after they leave their idyllic boarding school.

“My agent said to me last year, ‘You should only ever take roles that you can’t bear the idea of anyone else taking and I can’t bear the idea of anyone else playing Kathy,” Mulligan said Saturday during a round of interviews at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“I think other people could do it brilliantly and probably better — but they shouldn’t.”

The 25-year-old Mulligan plays the restrained but strong-willed Kathy in Mark Romanek’s vision of the taut sci-fi novel, set in an alternate world in 1990s England.

Keira Knightley plays her vivacious and manipulative best friend Ruth and Andrew Garfield completes the love triangle as the sensitive Tommy.

Ishiguro’s 2005 novel was lauded as one of the best of the decade for its melancholy tale of love, betrayal, sacrifice and mortality. Mulligan was an immediate fan when she read it at age 22.

“I was really, really into the book and I knew they’d make a film. I just hoped that they’d wait. I hoped that it would happen when I was old enough to play Kathy,” said Mulligan, who earned an Oscar nomination in 2010 for her portrayal of a schoolgirl who falls for a con man in 2009?s “An Education.”

“It was a real favourite of mine and I thought if they mess it up it’ll be horrible. And they didn’t. I felt like the script was perfect and the people who were already involved by the time I came on board were perfect.”

Garfield, who also stars in the upcoming Facebook film, “The Social Network,” and was recently cast as the next Spider-Man, said he was drawn to the heavy existential questions the story raises.

“There’s a sense of anxiety that runs through these kids, especially Tommy, because he’s so sensory and feeling and animalistic, that’s my perspective of him,” said Garfield, who wore a “Back to the Future” watch and gushed over ’80s film favourites including “Teen Wolf.”

“(He’s) very instinctive and intuitive, so he can’t intellectualize the situation as well as other people, but he’s aware that there’s something not quite right.”

Romanek said he’s often asked why the young characters don’t rebel against the circumstances they’re forced into. He says he thinks the alternative — to stay and accept your lot — is far more interesting. His approach was heavily influenced by Japanese film and art from the 1950s.

“It’s a very American idea, I think, to fight and run,” said Romanek, who directed “One Hour Photo,” and chose a shabby, muted colour palette for his most recent film.

“I’m not an expert on Japanese culture but it’s my understanding that it’s considered heroic to fulfil one’s duty to society. It’s a more Japanese conception and the American conception is almost a 180. I live in London now and I’m still a bit shocked by the kind of class system that exists there that doesn’t exist in that same way here. It’s frowned upon for people to try to rise above their station in life.”

Lots of Carey Mulligan Updates

Carey was promoting “Never Let Me Go” these days. She appeared in a couple of places recently:

002.jpg 023.jpg 011.jpg

I also capped some interviews of Carey including her recent appearance at The Tonight Show with Jay Leno:

and some press updates talking about her role in Drive and Never Let Me Go:

Carey Reveals Her Role in Drive

003.jpgA couple weeks ago it was announced that Carey Mulligan was in negotiations to star in the action film Drive alongside Ryan Gosling and Bryan Cranston. At the time, the film was said to center on “a nameless Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a freelance getaway driver but ends up on the run with a contract on his head and an ex-con’s girlfriend.” I recently spoke to Mulligan about her part in the film and she elaborated more on her character and revealed that she’s not just playing “a girlfriend.”

Mulligan is a dynamo when it comes to drama. Her performance in An Education proved that, but she’s taking a step outside of her comfort zone with Drive. While out promoting her new film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps she spoke about doing more American movies and easing her way into the action genre. Here’s what she had to say about DriveContinue Reading >

Carey worked up over her “biggest part” yet

001.jpgCarey Mulligan is the first to admit that her latest film, the adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go, was a role very close to her heart, having fallen in love with the novel before a film was even planned.

Nominated for an Oscar last year for her performance in An Education, 25-year-old Mulligan is quickly developing an impressive resume. She sat down with Metro to discuss the themes of the novel, playing a part she never thought she’d get and ignoring the noise of awards season.

Were you a fan of the book before auditioning?

Yes. My mum was a big Ishiguro fan, and I read it immediately after her. I loved it, and didn’t really think it was a part I could get because of all the usual reasons. So when it came around, to get to audition for it was huge for me. It was sort of the biggest part I’d auditioned for — and kind of the best phone call I’d ever had when I got the job. New Carey Mulligan Never Let Me Go Poster

Fresh online at Imp Awards are three new character posters for Never Let Go and jolly beautiful they are to, flaunting the film’s none-more-now cast members Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield and Keira Knightley resplendent in a blue-tinged mist, as well as a one-sheet that’s similarly striking.

Mark Romanek’s take on Kazuo Ishiguro’s acclaimed novel, adaptated by Alex Garland, is the curtain-raiser at this year’s London Film Festival and promises to be one of the LFF highlights. Judging by the trailer, it’s safe to expect one of the year’s most poignant and cerebral sci-fis, exploring the big stuff: love, death and what it means to be human.

The posters feature Kathy (Mulligan), Ruth (Knightley) and Tommy (Garfield), pupils at the mysterious Hailsham boarding school who are being prepared for a shocking fate (and it’s not summer school with George Lineker). LFF ticket holders can catch Never Let Me Go on October 13, while the rest of us will have to wait until January 14.
