“Angels & Demons” - Rome Photocall - February 15, 2009

The novel Angels and Demons is actually a prequel to The Da Vinci Code, but Ron Howard’s film adaptation is set after the events of his 2006 movie. The film, which stars Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor, is released on 15 May.

Yesterday, Tom Hanks took part in the reading of The World Of Nick Adams to honor Paul Newman and to benefit The Painted Turle, along with Julia Roberts, Bruce Willis, Billy Cristal and many others.

Synopsis : An American flyer who joined the RAF before his country was in the war is recovering from a leg injury in Jerusalem. Through an English friend he meets a quiet Jewish girl whose close-knit family originally came from Spain. The two are attracted to each other but she is convinced their diverse backgrounds mean it could never work; not only is he a gentile, his father is a protestant minister. So though they keep running into each other in the small community, they find themselves just as frequently parting again.

The miniseries John Adams won 5 other Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Miniseries. Tom Hanks accepted the award, with the rest of the cast and crew.

Tom Hanks will be celebrated as the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s 36th Gala Tribute honoree at the newly renovated Alice Tully Hall on Monday, April 27, 2009. The two-time Oscar winner will be feted with the traditional round of film clips and speeches from his colleagues.

Kent Jones, who will direct and produce the event with Jeanne R. Berney, explained :

“There are so few actors who have been able to make the struggle and drama of being a good man compelling. In that regard, Tom Hanks now stands alone. He’s had an exemplary career in movies, taking on genuinely challenging roles and expanding his creative reach into producing and directing.[...] With his talent, his presence, his versatility, his sense of humor, he has set a very high standard for his fellow actors”.

Tom Hanks becomes just the third American-born male actor to be honored at the Film Society’s Gala Tribute this decade, following Al Pacino in 2000 and Dustin Hoffman in 2005.

The 2008 Creative Arts Emmy Awards took place yesterday at the NOKIA Theatre, L.A.
The miniseries John Adams solidified its position as an Emmy frontrunner, converting eight of its 23 nominations to lead the way at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, winning for casting, costumes, prosthetic makeup, visual effects, sound mixing, editing, cinematography and art.

“With National Geographic’s help, our planet will be a better place for our kids,” Tom Hanks said presenting the Governors Award to National Geographic’s Preserve Our Planet campaign for its efforts to address the concerns facing global warming.

Suddenly, her business gets endangered by the opening of Fox Books discount store just “around the corner”. She meets Joe Fox (Tom Hanks), son of the owner, and soon gets annoyed by his arrogant way of managing business matters. Although getting advice by her anonymous mail-pal, she has to close down her store. But Joe Fox’s life suddenly gets out of control when he learns that his anonymous mail-pal is nobody other than Kathleen Kelly.
